Hacker 3 is an attempt at making a safe hacking game for those who want to pretend to be bad. But does that work? And is this not just a tool for teaching how to hack? Kind of and No. The presentation is friendly but has a dark nerdy feel. So accessible but perfectly set.
There are many missions of varying difficulty which simulate you hacking into various well known organisations for differing purposes, all of which require a certain method of hacking. So do you need to know lots of complex commands? No, most are mouse-friendly, but those few that are not are in the instructions, and they are very few. But this makes it feel like I'm carrying out a set of instructions to hack a multi-national, which I guess is quite like life. But I want to play a game, not hack into a made up site. Plus I know that the way you hack using this system would do nothing on even the most insecure site in real life.
Perhaps I know too much about computer systems. Or perhaps I just hate all hackers because I don't see the point. Those that are really clever create things. Those that wish they were clever destroy them. Enough said.
