This is a brilliant concept for a game. Firstly take a made up isometric world with towns and cities dotted around the place, intermingled with factories, power plants, mines and the like. Then give the player the chance to make their own transport routes around the world via rail, road or water.
It is such a brilliant concept that a certain somebody created this exact game years and years ago in the form of originally Railroad Tycoon then Transport Tycoon and its many other counterparts. And unfortunately Simutrans looks and plays almost identically like Transport Tycoon except, in my opinion, slightly worse with less scope for expansion and building - most noticably with the lack of air transport.
I shouldn't really grumble, because as a freeware game it plays extremely well and if you loved the Tycoon games or (gasp) haven't played them yet, then this is still worthy of a go. My problem is that it all felt too similiar and I had already outplayed and got bored of Transport Tycoon years ago.
